Stage director

Eva Buchmann made her debut as a stage director in 2001 with a semi-scenic performance of Die Fledermaus by J. Strauss in Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. After studying cello at the Hochschule für Musik in Switzerland, where she was born, and music therapy/psychology in Holland, for years she worked in a psychiatric institution. es in Poland (Warsaw, Krakow, Lodz en Bydgoszcz), Prague, Bratislava, Budapest, Moscow (Stanislavski Theatre) and on festivals inSwitzerland (St. Moritz, Basel), Malta, California (Carmel), Germany (Munich, Leipzig) and Italy. In her stage direction she combines a thorough know ledge of the music and subtle insight in character building with a great sense of the theatre. She inspires her singers to a multi-layered performance and authentic acting. In her hands the cultural heritage of opera turns into vital contemporary music theatre. She likes to lift the division between orchestra, singers and audience. The musicians often are part of the staging. In her collaboration with the conductor all this results in a rare music-dramatic unity and sharpness, an exceptional coherence between music and drama. Eva Buchmann is the artistic director of "Punto Arte" foundation. She frequently works with conductor Jan Willem de Vriend.
