After receiving a degree in both voice and clarinet at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest, Szabolcs Brickner attends master classes at the Hochschule für Musik in Augsburg with a.o. Hans-Joachim Beyer, Edith Wiens, and takes private lessons with Nicolai Gedda. After winning first prizes in national singing competitions, the tenor wins the 2nd prize at the Ferrucio Tagliavini International Singing Competition. Belgium's Queen Elisabeth Competition, one of the world's most prestigious classical music competitions for young performers.   Szabolcs Brickner sings roles such as Tamino (Mozart – Die Zauberflöte), Oronte (Händel – Alcina), Temistocle title role (J.C. Bach), Belmonte (Mozart – Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Don Ottavio (Mozart – Don Giovanni), Orfeo (Haydn – Orfeo ed Eurydice, L’anima del filosofo), Jaquino (Beethoven – Fidelio), Nemorino (Donizetti – L’elisir d’amore), Roméo (Gounod – Roméo et Juliette), Lensky (Tchaikovsky – Eugen Onegin), Alfredo (Verdi – La Traviata), Werther title role (Massenet), and he is a regular guest at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Frankfurt Oper, Nationaltheater Weimar, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Hungarian State Opera House, Opéra du Rhin in Strasbourg, Gergiev Festival Rotterdam, a.o.   The tenor’s concert repertoire includes Handel’s Saul and Messiah, Magnificat by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Mozart’s Krönungsmesse and Requiem, Die Schöpfung and Die Jahreszeiten by Joseph Haydn, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Mendelssohn’s Elias, Dichterliebe by Schumann, Verdi’s Requiem, and Mahler and Richard Strauss Lieder with orchestra. Szabolcs Brickner works with orchestras such as Orchestre de Paris, La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra, La Petite Bande, the Orchestra of the Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Danish Radio Sinfonietta, the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Orquestra Ciudad de Granada, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Hungary, the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and with conductors such as Giuliano Carella, Nicolas Chalvin, Adam Fischer, Valery Gergiev, René Jacobs, Nicola Luisotti, Kurt Masur, Günter Neuhold, Paolo Olmi, Kazushi Ono, Helmuth Rilling, Michel Tabachnik, and Christopher Warren-Green.   Recent and future productions include a.o. Die Zauberflöte, La Traviata, Der Prolog and Quint (Britten – The Turn of the Screw) and Der Prinz (Prokofiev – L’amour des trois oranges) in Mannheim, Die Entführung aus dem Serail, L’elisir d’amore and Alfred (J. Strauss – Die Fledermaus) in Budapest, and Don Giovanni in Toulon. Since season 15/16 Szabolcs Brickner is part of the ensemble of Volksoper Wien, where he sings a.o. the role of Alfredo and Tamino.
